Women of Grace

Full of Grace study guideLadies of the Parish – This one’s for you (and your sisters in faith)!  Contrary to what “Reality TV” tells us, authentic femininity comes from being a daughter of God!  Join us to be strengthened for your journey to holiness and finding God’s awesome purpose and mission for you in the world today. We will explore the journey of faith and purpose in daily life for women through a program developed by the founder and host of EWTN’s Women of Grace television program, Jonette Benkovic.  By taking the Blessed Virgin Mary as our exemplar and Spiritual Mother, we will grow in the feminine virtues and the secrets of true fulfillment.  Participants will meet at Resurrection Hall for 26 weeks and can choose between two options: Tuesday evenings, 6:45 – 8:45 p.m. beginning September 13, 2016 OR Thursday mornings, 9 – 11 a.m. beginning September 15, 2016.  Registration and course fee is required.  The whole story…

The Wild Goose

theblackgoose…is coming to Saint Agnes this fall, Thursday evenings beginning September 22, 2016!

Please join us for this riveting new adult faith formation program about the Holy Spirit. Why “The Wild Goose?” It is a name that the early Celtic Christians had for the Holy Spirit: “Ah Geadh-Glas,” or the wild goose and according to Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, program author, apart from the Wild Goose there is no life. The Wild Goose is a video series aimed at “discovering a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit.” No registration necessary; starts Thursday, 9/22/16; 6-9 p.m. in Resurrection Hall.  The whole story…

Marian Hymns

Hymns to the Blessed Mother this weekend:  Traditionally, the month of May has been dedicated to Mary, the Blessed Mother of Our Lord. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early for Mass this weekend, May 7/8, Mother’s Day weekend, to join in singing some of the beautiful Marian Hymns that have been passed on to us throughout the years. We will begin singing about 15 minutes before the start of Mass.

Holy Spirit Novena

In his homily May 21 and in the “From the Pastor” bulletin notes, Msgr. Paul has asked us again this year to pray a novena to the Holy Spirit in preparation for His coming on Pentecost.  A novena is a nine-day prayer plan, which fits perfectly into the time between the Ascension of Our Lord and the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday. During this time Our Lady and the Apostles prayed in the Upper Room for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Himself instituted this Novena. Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:4

Like the Apostles and the Blessed Mother, we pray that the Holy Spirit will come into our lives anew and set the Church and us on fire with true apostolic zeal. This year, we pray the Novena from Friday, May 26 (the day after the Ascension of Our Lord) until Saturday, June 3 (Pentecost Sunday).

You may choose any Novena to the Holy Spirit.  It can be as short as this:

Traditional Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Msgr. Paul provided the following prayer in the bulletin:

Prayer for Gifts of the Holy Spirit
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish your work in the souls of your Apostles and Disciples, graciously bestow the same Holy Spirit on me, that He may perfect in my soul the work of your grace and love.
Fill me–
With
the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal.
With the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of your divine truth.
With the Spirit of Right Judgment that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining Heaven.
With the Spirit of Courage that I may bear my cross with you and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation.
With the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints.
With the Spirit of Reverence that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable.
With the Spirit of Wonder and Praise that I may be filled with a loving awe towards God, and may dread in any way to displease Him.
Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of your true disciples and animate me in all things with your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Excerpted from Novena to the Holy Spirit by the Spiritan Fathers

This prayer is a favorite among our parishioners and our alumni of Discovering Christ:

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul. I adore you.

Enlighten me; guide me; strengthen me; and console me.
Tell me what I must do. Inspire me with what I must say.
Give me Your orders.
I promise to submit myself to You in all that You ask of me
And to accept all that You permit to happen to me.
Let me only know Your will, and do Your will. Amen.
