With great sadness and yet with joy born of our faith in the Lord, we bid farewell to God’s faithful servant and our dear friend, Cynthia Milchick who died on Friday, August 20, 2021 surrounded by her family (local obituary).  Cyndy served our parish officially as the Director of RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) where over the course of 17 years she taught and mentored dozens of people through the teachings of the Church and saw them through their studies and the Sacraments.

In addition to her official capacity as a program director and teacher, Cyndy served our parish in many ways.  As a sacristan, she cared for the sacred vessels and vestments used at Mass and led a team who kept our altar looking beautiful with flowers and linens, especially at Christmas and Easter.  Cyndy was also a lector and cantor and led many prayer services when called upon to do so.

Cyndy held a weekly bible study using the readings for the following Sunday and anyone who ever attended would agree that Cyndy knew the Bible well and that her bible study sessions were time well spent!  Cyndy also participated in and gathered the Resurrection Choir for funeral Masses by making phone calls any time there was a death in the parish.

But that wasn’t all.  Cyndy served our parish in a very practical way too.  For 39 years, Cyndy could be found in the Rectory kitchen each afternoon cooking dinner for our pastor and visiting priests or seminarians, always caring for their special dietary or health needs.

Cyndy will be greatly missed by our parish. We will miss her wisdom, her prayerfulness, and her shining example of someone who dearly loves and serves God.  Individually we will miss her quiet and gentile demeanor and her quick smile.

Cyndy was fond of saying, “I entrust myself to Jesus.” May we all strive to follow her lead.
