Deacon Bill’s Diary: short talks on Catholic living
Deacon Bill Wilson’s Diary includes short talks on living our Catholic Faith. Covering a wide range of topics, the talks are intended to give Catholics information about timely issues and questions that arise in our daily lives. How do we handle our faith in the work environment? What is Adoration? How should we view money matters when it comes to God?
Deacon Bill Wilson has been assigned to serve St. Agnes as permanent deacon after being ordained June 20, 2020 by Bishop Malesic of the Diocese of Greensburg. Bill was raised in Pittsburgh, but he and his wife Debbie (Winzek) have lived in Washington, DC; Atlanta, Georgia; and Charlottesville, Virginia before returning to Pittsburgh in 2015. The couple has been married for 35 years and they live in Franklin Farms in North Huntingdon. They have four grown children, the youngest of which is a sophomore at St. Vincent College. Deacon Bill works for Matthews International in Pittsburgh in the area of Corporate Development and Finance and holds an undergraduate degree from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio and an MBA from the University of Virginia. He completed a Master of Theology from St. Leo’s University in 2019.
For Deacon Bill, the spiritual journey has been an interesting path. He was raised in an active Methodist Christian home in the Pittsburgh area and converted to Catholicism while living in Atlanta based on answers to deep spiritual reflection and then became aware of deacons and their role in the Church. In Charlottesville, Bill entered the Diaconate program for the Richmond Diocese where he was halfway through the program before moving back home. After a thorough screening in the Diocese of Greensburg, Bill was accepted into the Diaconate program, joining 4 other men who were ordained in June 2020.
